Counseling for Postpartum Depression and Anxiety

Postpartum Therapist in Chicago, Illinois

“I need help to feel like myself again.”

You are overjoyed with your new baby but also not yet feeling at home in your new life. Your body’s different, your relationship is different, you feel different—it feels like your entire life has changed!

It makes sense if you also experience changes in your mental health after having a baby. Many new moms experience sadness, overwhelm, stress, and anxiety. It is normal for new motherhood to be an emotional rollercoaster ride—but you don’t need to ride it alone.

As a postpartum therapist, I can help you adapt to new motherhood and support you in managing its emotional highs and lows. We will work together to understand what you need to stay connected with yourself while settling into your new role as a mom.

Counseling for postpartum depression and anxiety

“How am I supposed to stop worrying?! Is it even possible to worry less as a mom?”

Worrying is a normal part of new parenthood but doesn’t have to take over your experience of caring for your new baby. If worry and anxiety are getting in the way of you taking care of yourself or enjoying time with your little one, I can help you manage postpartum anxiety.

Support for new moms

“I want to stop being so hard on myself.”

The pressure to do everything right for your baby can be crushing. If you feel like you’re not doing a good job as a mom (even though everyone says that isn’t true), you don’t have to feel that way. Postpartum depression therapy can help you get to the bottom of those negative thoughts and feelings and support you in being the best mom you can be.

“I need to emotionally prepare to go back to work.”

Going back to work can cause sadness and unnecessary guilt—not to mention overwhelm about balancing work and baby care! It can be confusing to both want to go back to work and spend all the time you can with your family. Postpartum therapy can help you cope with the emotional impact of returning to work and with the challenges of being a working mom.

“I need help with how I feel about feeding my baby.”

Many new moms are surprised by how emotionally and physically demanding it is to feed a new baby—no matter how that baby is being fed! If feeding your baby is a challenge, I can support you in caring for yourself while feeding you baby in whatever way works best.

“My partner and I want to learn how to work better as a team.”

Raising a baby together is a new challenge in your relationship. And like any new challenge, there are bumps along the way! In my practice, I help new moms navigate these relationship changes and maintain their connection with their partner while adapting to motherhood.

Help for Postpartum Depression and Anxiety

My goal is to give you the support you need to find more joy and peace in new motherhood. My work with new moms often focuses on sharing emotional experiences, trying new self-care practices, and strengthening communication skills. We'll also look at how your past affects your experience as a parent and your feelings about yourself.

I see moms for therapy both virtually and in my offices in Chicago. Many of my clients have their babies in session (both in person or on video) or need to schedule around their baby’s needs. Caring for your baby does not need to get in the way of you getting the support you need.
